چکیده

Abstract. We propose a new cloud screening method for sun photometry that is designed to effectively filter thin clouds. Our based on k-nearest-neighbour algorithm instead of scanning time series aerosol optical depth. Using 10 years data from precision radiometer in Innsbruck, we compare our and the currently employed technique. exemplify performance two routines different conditions. While both algorithms agree classification point as clear or cloudy majority cases, routine found be more effective flagging conclude this simple can serve valid alternative detection, discuss generalizability other observation sites.

Interference of Heavy Aerosol Loading on the VIIRS Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) Retrieval Algorithm

Aerosol optical depth (AOD) has been widely used in climate research, atmospheric environmental observations, and other applications. However, high AOD retrieval remains challenging over heavily polluted regions, such as the North China Plain (NCP). The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), which was designed as a successor to the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODI...

Aerosol optical depth (AOD) and Ångström exponent of aerosols observed by the Chinese Sun Hazemeter Network

[1] To reduce uncertainties in the quantitative assessment of aerosol effects on regional climate and environmental changes, extensive measurements of aerosol optical properties were made with handheld Sun photometers in the Chinese Sun Hazemeter Network (CSHNET) starting in August 2004. Regional characteristics of the aerosol optical depth (AOD) at 500 nm and Ångström exponent (a) computed usi...

Comparison of Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) Derived from Ground-Based LIDAR and MODIS

The performance and application of AOD products from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) are studied by comparing with the AOD derived from the ground-based Doppler LIDAR inside the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). The backscattered power data of the LIDAR are used to determine the extinction coefficient profile, from which the AOD is calculated. The AOD determined ...

Measurement of aerosol optical depth and sub-visual cloud detection using the optical depth sensor (ODS)

A small and sophisticated optical depth sensor (ODS) has been designed to work in the atmosphere of Mars. The instrument measures alternatively the diffuse radiation from the sky and the attenuated direct radiation from the Sun on the surface. The principal goals of ODS are to retrieve the daily mean aerosol optical depth (AOD) and to detect very high and optically thin clouds, crucial paramete...
